VSG consists of two or more glass panes, which are joined with highly tear-resistant, viscoplastic intermediate layers (PVB films). VSG retains the intended protective effect in the event of damage. In the event of mechanical overload due to impact and shock, the glass breaks, but the fragments adhere to the uninjured PVB layer. This reduces the risk of injury and the glazing retains residual stability.
The construction of SWISSLAMEX VSG elements and their thickness depend on the safety requirements placed on the glazing. The number of layers of glass and the thickness of the intermediate PVB films can be adapted to the respective safety requirements. SWISSLAMEX VSG is light and ageing resistant. The edges of the laminated safety glass panels must be protected against the effects of acids and alkalis as well as against permanent wetness so that the film is not affected. The intermediate layers of polyvinyl butyral films (PVB) can be clear or coloured, UV-transparent or sound-absorbing on request, or coupled with special functions such as shading elements.
